INVITATION ATTEND THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT CLIMATE CHANGE INDABA ON 7-8 NOVEMBER 2024 AT THE SIBUSISIWE COMMUNITY HALL, MANDENI LOCAL MUNICIPALITY, KWAZULU-NATAL
The Council for the Built Environment (CBE) which is a regulator of the Built environment Profession and a Public Entity of the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure (“DPWI”), together will be convening the annual Built Environment Climate Change Indaba on 7-8 November 2024 2024 at the Sibusisiwe Community Hall, Mandeni Local Municipality, KwaZulu-Natal under the theme “’Co-creation of spaces and places that responds to just transition”.
This is in line with sections 3 and 4 of the Council for the Built Environment Act of 2000 which mandates the CBE to –
“promote and protect the interests of the public in the built environment; promote and maintain a sustainable built environment and natural environment including discussions on sustainability; promote ongoing human resource development in the built environment; provide advice and consultation on national policy that could impact on the built environment;” amongst others.
The following thematic areas will frame the Indaba discussions:
a. A regulatory and policy environment that supports just transition
b. Reduction of energy consumption and emissions in the built environment
c. Increased knowledge and skills, and commitment to plan, design, and deliver a resilient and sustainable built environment
d. Improved community resilience to climate change and disaster management capacityIt is against this background that the CBE invites you to participate and contribute to the Climate Change Indaba in the four thematic areas identified.
